A book review of Wallace D. Wattles’ 1910 book “The Science of Getting Rich”

“Once you make a decision, the universe conspires to make it happen.” ― Ralph Waldo Emerson

What is the Science of Getting Rich?

Wallace D. Wattles’ inspiration and motivation make the reader impatient to start implementing his advice.

Rhonda Byrne credited The Science of Getting Rich as inspiration for her 2006 film and 2007 book The Secret.

“Something inside of me had me turn the pages one by one, and I can still remember my tears hitting the pages as I was reading it. […] It gave me a glimpse of The Secret. It was like a flame inside of my heart. And with every day since, it’s just become a raging fire of wanting to share all of this with the world.”― Rhonda Byrne

The Science of Getting Rich, by Wallace D. Wattles, published in 1910, is a timeless classic. It is part of a trilogy that includes The Science of Being Well and The Science of Being Great.

The Science of Getting Rich is a practical manual for the men and women whose most pressing need is for money. ― Wallace D. Wattles

Here is what you’ll discover in Wattles’ book

1. Why you have a right to be rich

2. Why you should be rich

3. The specific laws to the science of getting rich

4. How following the Certain Way guarantees success

5. The three purposes of a fulling life

6. How riches come to you

7. Getting rich is a state of mind

8. Why you should be careful what you read

9. How charity can be harmful to society

10. How overworking is counterproductive to getting rich

11. Why lack of capital is not a barrier to getting rich

12. The creative vs the competitive methods of getting rich

Essentially, according to Wattles, the men and women who follow his advice will get rich; and the riches will be in proportion to the scope of their vision, the persistence of their purpose, the firmness of their faith, and the intensity of their gratitude.

What I liked and didn’t like

I appreciate Wattles’ unique approach to getting rich. He advocates a creative instead of competitive approach; where riches are within everyone’s means.

I also enjoyed his approach that getting rich is a right and a societal obligation. If you are not rich you are a drain on society. Also, if you do not have enough money you are unable to fulfill your life purposes.

I have personally used these principles to gain riches. And through hubris, I lost my riches. I hope to commit to my scope of vision, my persistence of purpose, my firmness of faith, and my intensity of gratitude to get rich again.

If you can enjoy Wattles’ writing style and commit to following his advice, then I believe you too can gain riches from his advice.

Conclusions

Commitment to your vision comes with two benefits: assistance from the universe and the fire of your passion.

“At the moment of commitment, the entire universe conspires to assist you.” ― Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

“Commitment, I believe, produces passion. I often meet people who sigh, ‘I just can’t find my passion.’ To them, I say, ‘Make a commitment. Fling yourself into it. Passion will make its debut soon after.’” ― Roy H Williams (aka The Wizard of Ads)

Recommendation

I highly recommend you read The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace D. Wattles and incorporate what you learn into your daily life.
